Gauge visuals are great for showing progress toward a target. They're perfect when you want to track performance against a goal, like session quality, conversion rates, or average order value.
Gauges are one of my favorite visuals for executive dashboards. They instantly show "Are we hitting our target or not?"
Gauges need a target to be meaningful. You can type a fixed target into the Format pane (Gauge axis → Target), but I prefer to use a measure. It keeps your targets consistent and maintainable, and other visuals and formulas can reuse them.
Here's the simple pattern I use all the time:
sales_goal = 1005
That's it! A measure that just returns a constant value. Simple but effective.
